You May Be Too Close
To Your Own Work

How often have you written an email, re-read it after sending it, and realized you missed something?

It happens to everyone!

Regardless of how accomplished a writer you are, if your work has typos, poor grammar, misspelled words, or misplaced punctuation marks, the credibility of your project is diminished.
Whether you're writing a novel, an essay, or a government proposal, you need someone to be your second set of eyes.
You need a Proofreader!

What is a Proofreader?
A proofreader is the final pair of eyes to look at your project before you share it with your audience. As your proofreader, I am the one who double-checks your work to ensure there are no embarrassing grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, formatting issues, or missed punctuation.

My work begins when you are ready to publish your work.
My job is to:

-
Read your document.
-
Find the errors.
-
Mark the errors.
-
Return your document.

In addition to looking for punctuation, grammar, spelling, and formatting errors, as your proofreader, I can also provide light editing. I look for passive phrases and unclear or awkward word order and suggest changes that will make your content more assertive and provide greater clarity for your audience.

I work primarily with The Chicago Manual of Style and can quickly adapt to your personal or organization's Style Sheet. I'm a Canadian-born English speaker with equal familiarity with American English.

What is an Editor?

As your editor, my goal is to improve the quality of communication for your writing. I’m responsible for ensuring that your content is clear, easily understood, interesting, and accurate. My job is to carefully review each word of the text, marking and noting any redundancies and making suggestions for how to improve it. My main concern is improving the readability of your document.
My work begins when you have written your first draft.
My job is to:
-
Make suggestions on content types that may perform well with certain audiences.
-
Create and maintain publication standards.
-
Plan content with you, the author.
-
Organize content as per the publisher’s requirements.
-
Ensure compliance with editorial policies and publication styles.
-
Suggest rewrites, or perform rewrites, of any section that lacks readability.
-
Identify formatting errors and correct them if required.

What is a Word Coach?

As your Word Coach, my goal is to help you take your writing ideas from "napkin to novel." It's my job to help you formulate your ideas and put them into the best words possible. You don't need to be exceptional at writing to be an excellent writer; you just need someone looking over your shoulder, cheering you on and finding the best way for you to express and share your thoughts, ideas and stories with your audience.

My work begins when you've scribbled your idea on a napkin with an eyeliner.

My job is to:

1. Listen to your ideas, no matter how impossible they may seem.
2. Help you formulate your thoughts into a cohesive flow of story or information.
3. Hold your hand when you're feeling like quitting and cheer you on to the next step.
4. Be positively critical if you need a nudge in a different direction.
5. Take you through the publishing process, whether you're self-publishing or traditionally publishing.
6. Celebrate you when you reach your writing goals.

About Megan
For over twenty years, I’ve supported entrepreneurs, authors, and healing practitioners in bringing their work into the world with clarity, confidence, and integrity. As a professional editor, proofreader, and writing coach, I specialize in helping purpose-driven individuals refine their message so it truly connects with their audience.
My background as a business coach and healer gives me a unique lens—I don’t just edit words, I help shape the voice behind them. Whether you’re writing a book, building a brand, or developing course materials, I work with you to ensure your message is clear, aligned, and impactful.
As both an author and editor, I understand the writing journey from the inside out. I’ve written course manuals, workshop content, and published articles in health and wellness magazines. My book and oracle deck, The Heart’s Journey: Healing Hearts Oracle Cards and Guidebook, is published through Hay House and Balboa Press.
Editing, for me, is both a technical skill and an intuitive art. I pay close attention to grammar, punctuation, and structure—while also tuning into flow, tone, and meaning. It’s about more than fixing errors; it’s about helping your words fully express what you want to say.
I’m known for spotting the details others miss (yes—the one typo in a thousand pages!) while keeping the bigger picture in focus.
When I’m not working with clients or immersed in a manuscript, you’ll find me exploring the forests and shorelines of Canada’s West Coast—often foraging for wild mushrooms or walking the beach in search of inspiration.
